Air Regulator Mount

Instron | Co-Op | Fixtures

Overview

I designed a custom sheet metal bracket to securely mount air regulators in the mechanical lab. The mount reduced workspace clutter and provided a clean, efficient solution for managing pneumatic tools.

Challenges

  • Air regulators were placed loosely on benches, contributing to workspace clutter.

  • Regulators needed to remain portable for use across multiple workstations.

Solutions

  • Cost-Effective Fabrication: Designed for fast-turn sheet metal production and off-the-shelf hardware.

  • Minimal Design: Integrated PEM inserts to reduce visible hardware and create a more polished appearance.

  • Easy Portability: Embedded magnets for quick, tool-free mounting and removal between workspaces.

Minimal Design

The sheet metal bracket leverages existing features: two slots on the air regulator and two threaded holes on the manifold. This allows for a simple assembly using just two standoffs, two screws, and two nuts from available stock—making it quick and compatible with all existing air regulators.

Easy to Install

I selected three strategically placed magnets to provide planar stability and secure mounting to the metal bench racks. The setup remains firmly in place—even if the hose is accidentally tugged—eliminating concerns about the assembly detaching.
